Blake Tye is a staff analyst for the Government Affairs group at Qualcomm Incorporated. In this capacity, Tye directs the global health care strategy for Qualcomm’s Wireless Reach initiative. Wireless Reach strives to bring wireless technology to underserved communities around the world with a goal of creating sustainable advanced wireless projects that strengthen economic and social development.
Tye specializes in international technology project management for emerging economies and public-private partnership development. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with degrees in International Relations and Spanish literature, and holds a master’s degree in International Affairs from the University of California San Diego’s School of International Relations and Pacific Studies.

In the most populated country in the world, China, more than half a billion people live outside of urban areas and many do not have access to the same quality of health care as those who live within the cities. This is one reason why Qualcomm, through its Wireless Reach initiative, has collaborated with China Children and Teenagers’ Fund (CCTF) and Xi’an Kingtone Information Technology Co., Ltd., (Xi’an Kingtone) to implement the Mobile Vision Project – a mobile health project that utilizes a customized 3G-enabled mobile application to assist doctors in the screening and treatment of children with amblyopia in underserved communities in China.
Recently, Wireless Reach sponsored a conference in Cape Town, South Africa that aimed to revolutionize the health care industry by addressing critical barriers and helping to create best practices for the emerging mobile health ecosystem. As an attendee at the event, I was able to observe the influence of mobility on health care worldwide.
