Qualcomm Expands Gobi Brand to Cover Complete Mobile Connectivity Portfolio

Expands Gobi Modem Brand for Notebooks and e-Readers to Consumer, Enterprise and M2M Applications

Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced it will expand the usage of its Gobi™ modem brand, currently the industry choice for 3G/4G-LTE modem for notebooks and tablets, to cover the company’s complete modem product portfolio, including the successful MDM chipset family. Qualcomm’s modems provide 3G/4G-LTE connectivity to consumer and enterprise devices globally and are already leading solutions for smartphones, tablets and ultra-portable notebooks, data cards, mobile routers, USB dongles, customer premises equipment (CPEs) and M2M / Internet of Everything (IoE) applications, such as smart automotive, energy and smart home. By the end of calendar year 2011, Qualcomm had shipped more than 250 million modem chipsets which makes the newly branded Gobi modems the global leader and the No. 1 choice in mobile connectivity technology.

Qualcomm is the first and only company to provide 3G/4G-LTE multi-mode chipsets for all cellular modes, and also integrate voice, data, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, location and security features, making the chipsets one of the most complete solutions for a broad range of uses.

“This is an exciting time for wireless technology. It is migrating into new application spaces, such as M2M and IoE, as well as into developing countries where it offers social, economic and education benefits by providing high-speed wireless Internet access where build out of wired infrastructure is not feasible,” said Cristiano Amon, senior vice president of product management, Qualcomm. “Our Gobi modem technologies provide the multi-mode connectivity, reliability, performance and power efficiency that mobile devices need for cutting-edge multimedia and cloud-based applications. Accordingly, we have expanded our ‘Gobi by Qualcomm’ brand to cover our entire mobile connectivity offering, as the name has become synonymous with leading-edge multi-mode 3G/4G connectivity.”

Qualcomm offers a broad roadmap of Gobi modem chipsets for various device uses, including chipsets for 3G, 4G, 4G-LTE and now 4G LTE-Advanced.
