Tata Teleservices Takes the Lead in Data Services Enabled by Qualcomm’s BREW Platform and Single Chip Solution

Attributes Over 9 Percent of Overall Revenue to Value-added Services, with 30 Million Downloads Coming from BREW-based Data Services

– November 29, 2007 – Tata Teleservices (TTSL), one of India's leading telecom service providers, and Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies and data solutions, today jointly announced the success of rich data services based on Qualcomm's BREW® solution. Tata Indicom subscribers enjoy a range of innovative and differentiated data services beyond just SMS, ringtones and wallpaper. Data services now permeate even low-end devices because of the Qualcomm Single Chip™ (QSC™) solution and availability of BREW® in Hindi. According to TTSL, these developments have led to the company reaching 30 million downloads of BREW content and applications in 2007. With this new milestone, TTSL attributes 80 percent of its value-added services revenue to non-SMS services and takes a step closer to solidifying its position as a high ARPU carrier in India.

Devices launched on Qualcomm's QSC solution with full BREW capability have revolutionized the mobile data experience for Indian consumers. TTSL subscribers have the unique advantage of enjoying rich data services such as gaming, prayer applications and local language news on a range of affordable devices. Innovative devices, such as the Samsung Explore and Huawei 2900i, which are based on Qualcomm's QSC6020™ chip, offer an unparalleled Internet browsing experience at attractive price points.

Launched in March 2005, the highly popular BREW services have grown rapidly with more than one million users accessing BREW services every month and the overall user base tripling in the last year alone. Today, Tata Zone, the value-added services portal for Tata Indicom, offers more than 500 BREW data applications that are available on a wide variety of handsets from leading OEMs such as Samsung, Motorola, LG, Huawei and Kyocera. Popular applications such as ringtones, wallpapers, games and email have been pre-installed on affordable devices to enable easy discovery. TTSL also has launched BREW in Hindi, which is expected to enhance the BREW uptake in non-urban areas and augment revenues from traditionally low ARPU locations.

Commenting on this significant milestone, Pankaj Sethi, president, value-added services, Tata Teleservices Limited, said, “Qualcomm's BREW platform has helped us bring innovative and differentiated data offerings to our subscribers and grow our ARPU from value-added services to 9.4 percent. Innovations like the Qualcomm Single Chip have enabled us to extend compelling data services on low-end devices. Leveraging BREW and CDMA is helping us open up entertainment and information to mass customers through enriched services and fast downloads. We will continue to work with Qualcomm in our endeavor to provide a richer and more complete experience for data services on CDMA2000 to our subscribers.”

“We are very pleased to see TTSL's pioneering efforts in leveraging BREW lead to such widespread success for its data service offerings,” said Kanwalinder Singh, president, Qualcomm India and SAARC. “By focusing on innovation and differentiation, TTSL has established itself as a leading operator worldwide in terms of BREW downloads. We are committed to our ongoing relationship with TTSL to bring an enriched data experience to Indian consumers.”

“Through Qualcomm's long-standing relationship with TTSL, they have succeeded in offering exciting and innovative data services that address the varying needs and preferences of Indian consumers,” said Arvin Chander, vice president, global carrier relations, Qualcomm Internet Services. “TTSL's data services milestones exemplify the tremendous potential that BREW offers to wireless operators in enhancing their data revenues.”

BREW solutions change the way people relate to wireless data services. By enabling the discovery and delivery of high-value content, BREW creates opportunities for the wireless industry to enhance consumers' mobile data experience. Qualcomm's comprehensive and targeted BREW Signature Solutions offer reduced time to market and lower capital investment for companies providing mobile products and services. Customers also can benefit from several modular BREW offerings, including uiOne™, deliveryOne™ and QPoint™, which provide the foundation for customer-differentiated wireless data capabilities.
