Qualcomm BREW® Publishers and Developers Earn More Than $200 Million from Sales of BREW-Based Applications

— Revenue Milestone Validates the Impact of the BREW Solution on the

– October 26, 2004 – Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced that third-party BREW publishers and developers to date have earned more than $200 million from the sales of BREW-based applications. This achievement marks the ongoing momentum for the BREW system within the rapidly expanding global wireless industry. To date, there are 37 commercial operators in 24 countries offering wireless services based on the BREW solution. More than 180 million BREW-based wireless applications have been downloaded by subscribers worldwide. Qualcomm’s BREW solution is an end-to-end system that connects all members of the wireless value chain – from publishers and developers to handset manufacturers and operators – enabling them to work together for the rapid and efficient development and delivery of applications and services to the worldwide wireless marketplace.

The BREW solution includes a variety of powerful features via its powerful client software and backend BREW Distribution System (BDS). Publishers and developers can take advantage of these features to create and monetize innovative mobile applications. Key capabilities include the ability to easily develop 3D games; flexible pricing options such as value billing that enables additional incremental revenue opportunities; and the chance to reach new users through a variety of new shopping options available soon. BREW Zone is a new functionality in the BDS that extends the marketplace for BREW-based applications beyond a user’s handset, enabling them to purchase applications from Web sites or using gift cards.

“We’re thrilled to report that our services on the BREW solution are generating more than $1 million in revenue a month for Faith West,” said Carolynne Schloeder, president of Faith West. “We launched Modtones™ on BREW two short years ago, and its success with carriers around the world is a testament to the platform’s ease of use by carriers, developers and consumers.”

“Since its launch in 2001, the BREW solution has continually brought value and profitability to an ever increasing wireless developer community,” said Peggy Johnson, president of Qualcomm Internet Services.

“The $200 million milestone is a demonstration of the solution’s widespread popularity and relevance to the wireless industry. As consumer uptake of wireless services proliferates around the world, we look forward to BREW publishers and developers continuing to reap the financial reward of their innovation and market leadership.”

The developers’ earnings figures were calculated based on payments made by Qualcomm and by BREW operators to developers.

Publishers and developers worldwide are generating revenue from BREW-based applications and content, and 27 manufacturers have offered more than 150 BREW-enabled device models to consumers. BREW is successfully enabling the commercial wireless data services of many successful operators, including Verizon Wireless, Alaska Communication Systems, ALLTEL, Cellular One, Cellular South, Cricket Communications, MetroPCS, Midwest Wireless, NTELOS, Rural Cellular Corporation and U.S. Cellular in the United States, Bermuda Digital Communications, China Unicom, KDDI in Japan, KTF in South Korea, Hutch in Thailand, VIBO in Taiwan, Tata in India, Telstra in Australia, VIVO in Brazil, Iusacell in Mexico, BellSouth Argentina, BellSouth Chile, BellSouth Colombia, BellSouth Ecuador, BellSouth Guatemala, BellSouth Nicaragua, BellSouth Panama, BellSouth Peru, Movicom in Argentina, Movicom in Uruguay, Telcel and Movilnet in Venezuela, Verizon Dominicana in the Dominican Republic, Verizon Wireless Puerto Rico, Pelephone in Israel and Zapp in Romania.
