Schneider National to Deploy Qualcomm’s T2 Untethered TrailerTRACS Asset Management Solution Across its Fleet

Transportation and Logistics Service Provider Completes Product Testing; Qualcomm Announces Commercial Availability of Product

– October 04, 2004 – Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), the leader in mobile communications for the transportation industry and Schneider National Inc., a premier provider of transportation, logistics and related services, today announced that Schneider National has purchased Qualcomm’s T2™ Untethered TrailerTRACS® Asset Management Solution and has begun implementing the technology across its fleet of more than 48,000 trailers. Schneider National named Qualcomm its untethered trailer tracking provider of choice in August 2003 after a comprehensive analysis of the trailer tracking technology market. Schneider National recently completed extensive road testing of the T2 Untethered TrailerTRACS solution on hundreds of its trailers. The Company is in the midst of an aggressive fleet-wide installation schedule with thousands of units already installed.

Qualcomm’s T2 Untethered TrailerTRACS solution leverages GPS positioning and wireless communications technology to assist carriers in determining and reporting a trailer’s location and load status, regardless of whether or not the trailer is hooked to a tractor.

The benefits of trailer tracking extend beyond carriers to shippers and drivers as well. Trailer tracking provides shippers increased visibility to freight at each point along the supply chain, helping them improve planning and forecasting. Trailer tracking technology benefits to drivers include greater productivity by virtually eliminating trailer searches and reducing unpaid and out-of-route miles.

“In today’s shipping environment, demand for transportation is high, capacity is limited and inventories are lean,” said Paul Mueller, vice president of technology services at Schneider National Inc. “Increasing freight visibility by tracking location has never been more crucial to optimizing assets, ensuring capacity and enabling customers to effectively manage their supply chains.”

Schneider National surveyed its customers last year and found that shippers place a high value on carriers who employ trailer tracking technology. Almost half of customers surveyed said they would reward carriers using this technology with more freight.

“Schneider National’s thorough testing of T2 Untethered TrailerTRACS is a significant validation of our solution’s ruggedness, features and total lower cost of ownership,” said Chris Wolfe, president of Qualcomm Wireless Business Solutions. “Our T2 Untethered TrailerTRACS solution enables carriers to differentiate their service offerings, improve trailer utilization and provide an extra measure of security for high-value and high-risk trailer cargo.”

Schneider National and Qualcomm have been working together and leveraging technology for the benefit of the shipping community since 1988. In 2003, Schneider National and Qualcomm teamed to develop an untethered trailer tracking solution based on digital wireless technology. Schneider National also joined other leading transportation carriers as the founding member of a consortium designed to further the development of Qualcomm’s untethered trailer asset management solution and provide Qualcomm guidance with regard to product direction and development.
