Qualcomm Announces Extensive Market Adoption of the radioOne Enabled MSM6050 CDMA2000 1X Chipset

– November 11, 2003 – SAN DIEGO -- November 11, 2003 -- Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced strong customer demand for its direct conversion radioOne™ MSM6050™ Mobile Station Modem™ (MSM™) chipset. The MSM6050 chipset solution represents the first MSM6xxx series solution to be selected by a variety of manufacturers for the design of camera phones, smart phones, PDAs and data cards for CDMA2000 1X markets worldwide. Over 20 manufacturers have committed to the development of more than 50 different wireless devices for markets throughout North America, Latin America, China and Japan.

Casio, Curitel, LGE, Motorola, Ningbo Bird, Sanyo, Sierra Wireless, TCL Mobile, UTC/Anydata and Wavecom, are among the more than 20 wireless customers who have selected the MSM6050 chipset for their CDMA2000 1X devices.

"As the first carrier to launch a handset with the MSM6050 chipset - the 8100 by Sanyo - Sprint understands and has seen firsthand the improved customer experience it provides in supporting simplified picture taking and sharing features, faster web applications and animated ringers with CMX technology," said John Garcia, senior vice president of marketing, sales and distribution for the PCS Division of Sprint. "By integrating Sprint's software and applications in the device we can build a better end-user experience that wireless customers demand."

"The MSM6050 is proving to be very compelling to manufacturers worldwide that require higher performance, lower cost solutions to develop gpsOne-enabled multimedia wireless devices for mainstream market acceptance," said Luis Pineda, vice president of marketing and product management of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies. "Strong customer demand for our MSM6050 chipset - with its radioOne architecture and application-rich feature set - is further testimony to our commitment to provide the industry with cost-effective, proven 3G wireless data solutions."

The MSM6050 chipset leverages the advantages of radioOne ZIF technology to provide manufacturers with a solution that greatly reduces the cost for multiband radios by decreasing the bill-of-materials (BOM) by up to 50 percent, shortening handset development time and minimizing form factor size. The MSM6050 chipset also includes integrated GPS functionality with Qualcomm's gpsOne position location technology to help extend gpsOne to a wider global subscriber base.

In addition to gpsOne technology, other select features of the Launchpad suite of applications technologies are integrated into the MSM6050 chipset. The MSM6050 chipset also supports the CMX™ multimedia software, the Qtunes™ MP3 audio decoder, the Qtv™ MPEG-4 video decoder and the PureVoice® advanced voice recognition software to allow handset manufacturers to further differentiate their product offerings.

The MSM6050 solution includes Qualcomm's BREW™ system. Qualcomm's BREW system provides products and services that connect the mobile marketplace value chain, which includes application developers, publishers, content providers, device manufacturers, operators and consumers. This chipset is also compatible with the Java® runtime environment; the J2ME™ solution can be built entirely on the BREW software layer.
