Qualcomm Congratulates Telecom New Zealand on the Launch of Third-Generation CDMA Services

– August 05, 2002 – WELLINGTON, New Zealand -- August 5, 2002 -- Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, congratulates Telecom, New Zealand's largest wireless service provider, on the successful launch of its CDMA2000 1X network. Telecom New Zealand, which is leading the way as the first third-generation (3G) CDMA2000 1X wireless provider in Australasia, launched its CDMA2000 1X network, known as Mobile JetStream, to customers yesterday.

CDMA2000 1X supports the continuing growth of voice services, offering nearly double the voice capacity of cdmaOne™ systems, while simultaneously providing new high-speed data capabilities.

Telecom New Zealand is now able to offer customers mobile multimedia, wireless corporate data access, and a wide variety of colourful and innovative wireless devices. The company is set to launch a range of wireless devices to operate on the CDMA2000 1X network in the coming months.
