Qualcomm Joins Bluetooth 1.2 Special Interest Group as Associate Member

– November 15, 2000 – SAN DIEGO -- November 15, 2000 -- Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM) today announced the Company has accepted an Associate Membership in the Bluetooth 1.2 Special Interest Group (SIG). Bluetooth is a short-range radio technology developed by the SIG founded by Ericsson, IBM, Intel, Nokia and Toshiba. A small-form-factor, low-cost radio solution, Bluetooth provides a wireless link between mobile computers, mobile phones and other portable devices, as well as easy wireless connectivity to the Internet.

Qualcomm joined the Bluetooth 1.0 SIG in the spring of 1998 as an Early Adopter. In December 1999, Lucent, Microsoft, Motorola and 3Com joined the original founders of Bluetooth as Promoters, and the Bluetooth 1.2 SIG was formed. Today there are more than 2000 Bluetooth 1.2 SIG members worldwide (including the nine original Promoters, Associate Members, Early Adopters and Independents).

As an Associate Member, Qualcomm will receive early access to Bluetooth specifications and will provide input during the ongoing development of the technology. Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT), Qualcomm's chipset and system software division, expects to increase involvement by joining Bluetooth's Technical Working Group, Expert Group and Marketing Group.

"QCT's increased involvement in the Bluetooth SIG will allow us to continue to drive the development and deployment of advanced CDMA solutions for the next generation of wireless technologies and services, including high-speed wireless Internet capabilities."

QCT's MSM3300™ Mobile Station Modem (MSM™) chipset and system software is the first wireless baseband solution that integrates Bluetooth capabilities, and represents the world's first multimedia-capable CDMA chipset. In addition to Bluetooth, the MSM3300 solution features the highest level of integration of multimedia features available for mobile phones of any standard, incorporating QCT's Wireless Internet Launchpad™ suite of advanced technologies and software, including the gpsOne™ position-location solution featuring SnapTrack™ technology, CDMA Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) controller, and multimedia features such as Qtunes™ Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG-1) Layer-3 (MP3) player software and Compact Media Extension (CMX™) Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI)-based multimedia software. Sample shipments of the MSM3300 were released in August 2000, with production quantities expected to be available by the end of the year.

The range of possible Bluetooth applications is unlimited. Consumers will have the ability to walk into their offices, easily update the schedule and phonebook on their handset or PDA to synchronize with their office PC; or on a business trip, send photographs taken with a digital camera to their office via the handset; or using their handsets, exchange electronic business cards, unlock car doors or transfer data to and from a variety of informational or entertainment devices. High-capacity, high-data-rate capable CDMA networks will deliver wide-area voice and data services to Bluetooth-enabled terminal devices.
