Qualcomm Enters into a Subscriber Unit Research and Development Agreement with Chunghwa Telecom Labs

– October 09, 2000 – SAN DIEGO -- October 9, 2000 -- Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced that it has entered into a subscriber unit research and development agreement with Chunghwa Telecom Labs (CHTTL), the technology development group of the state-owned telecommunication operator in Taiwan. Under the terms of the agreement, CHTTL will develop and evaluate prototype subscriber units based on Qualcomm's third-generation (3G) cdma2000 1x technology. Qualcomm will also provide CHTTL with CDMA chipsets and system software, relevant documentation and technical support required for its cdma2000 1x research and development projects.
