Qualcomm Provides World Series Tickets to "Qualcomm Kids"

– October 19, 1998 – Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced it will provide fifty-one 1998 World Series tickets for each game held at Qualcomm Stadium through the ongoing Qualcomm Kids program to benefit organizations that support San Diego's youth. The Padres Scholars will be the recipients of tickets for Tuesday's game and outpatients from Children's Hospital will be the recipients of tickets for Wednesday's game.

To date, nearly 10,000 tickets have been distributed to over 180 youth organizations from San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico since the program's inception in April 1997. To commemorate the World Series game, Qualcomm will provide each Qualcomm Kid with a Qualcomm Kids tee-shirt and hat which they will wear during the game to cheer on the Padres."It is with great pride that Qualcomm provides World Series tickets to the youth of San Diego," said Dr. Daniel L. Sullivan, senior vice president of human resources for Qualcomm. "The outstanding performance of the Padres this season and the continuation of the Qualcomm Kids program provides Qualcomm with a unique opportunity to give deserving children the lifetime memory of experiencing World Series baseball."

At a ceremony held at Children's Hospital today, Qualcomm presented tickets to David Gillig, senior vice president and executive director of Children's Hospital Foundation, and several of the children who will attend Wednesday's game.

"This is a wonderful gift and a once in a lifetime experience for these kids who face serious health challenges so early in life," said Gillig. "This gift represents what Qualcomm does so well, caring about kids and the community to see the smiles from the kids and the parents makes it all worthwhile."

The Padres Scholars program provides scholarships to help academically talented, financially challenged seventh-graders make it through the challenges of high school into college. The program was created in 1995 and is funded by the Padres players, with matching funds from the Padres ownership, and by Qualcomm. Each student is granted a $5,000 scholarship plus accrued interest upon acceptance into a four-year college. Starting in 1998, Qualcomm's funds have contributed to the addition of five more Padres Scholars per year. To date, the program has contributed $500,000 in scholarships to over 100 Padres Scholars.

The Qualcomm Kids program provides for the donation of 51 tickets for each San Diego Padres and Chargers regular-season home game. For Qualcomm Kids ticket information, interested groups may contact Ellie Glaser, senior manager of Qualcomm Community Development, at (619) 658-2033.
