Qualcomm Extends Internet E-mail Presence to the Web

– December 10, 1997 – Qualcomm, Inc. (NASDAQ: QCOM), a world leader in wireless communications and advanced electronic messaging solutions for the Internet, today announced the introduction of Eudora Web-Mail—a free, Web-based e-mail system. This innovative technology will be showcased in Qualcomm's booth, #1867, this week during Internet World in New York City.

Eudora Web-Mail is a cross-platform solution for those people who need or want the freedom to send and receive messages via the World Wide Web. Users can easily access Eudora Web-Mail at such mobile locations as airport kiosks and cybercafes as well as any Internet-connected laptop and stationary desktop computers.

"With Eudora Web-Mail, Qualcomm now provides consumers with an even greater choice in how they may access and use e-mail," said James DeBello, vice president and general manager of the Eudora Division of Qualcomm. "Eudora Web-Mail offers a truly mobile means of communication that people can use free of cost, anytime, anywhere."

Eudora Web-Mail is ideal for those individuals who are away from their desktops and require an e-mail solution. These mobile professionals can benefit from Web-Mail by remaining truly connected to their e-mail at all times. By working in perfect concert with other Eudora clients, an auto-forward option allows users to send and receive their e-mails from existing Eudora accounts via the web, the 18 million existing Eudora e-mail users will have the freedom to leave their laptops at home.

Those individuals who do not own their own computers or whose positions do not require the need of a computer on their desks will now have the opportunity to experience the ease of e-mail communication. These users can access their access to the web—a friend's house, nearby cybercafe or local library. Administrators also may benefit by utilizing Web-Mail. Because there is no need to install and maintain e-mail clients, administrators can more effectively provide on-demand deployment.

Interested parties simply log onto the Eudora Web-Mail site and register for a free private account. After completing the registration process, they will receive a personal user name with their chosen password.

Eudora Web-Mail includes the following key features:

  • Personal address book
  • Directory services
  • Mailing list management
  • Automated message reply
  • URL hot links
  • Multiple personalities

WhoWhere?, a provider of Web-based communication tools, worked with Qualcomm in the development of Eudora Web-Mail.

"WhoWhere and Eudora are a logical fit for creating a seamless solution for all e-mail needs, no matter where a user is or what they use," said Dale Fuller, president and CEO of WhoWhere. "Having Qualcomm, the leading e-mail software client provider, select WhoWhere is a glowing endorsement for our company and our Web-based e-mail."
