SMART Modular Technologies, Inc. and Qualcomm Incorporated Announce Agreement for SMART to Co-Develop and Supply CDMA Capable Fax/Modem PC Cards to Qualcomm

– September 15, 1997 – SMART Modular Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: SMOD) and Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced the signing of an agreement for SMART to co-develop and supply V.34 fax/modem PC cards to Qualcomm. Qualcomm's Data On The Go™ PC card will be the first fax/modem compatible with CDMA digital phones, enabling users to access the Internet, send and receive faxes and email over existing analog systems as well as digital CDMA wireless networks when data services become available. When fully implemented, CDMA networks are expected to provide the largest coverage of any digital wireless technology in North America.

The Data On The Go PC card will be compatible with today's most popular notebooks and PDA's. Additionally, the card will be software upgradable to allow users to take advantage of future CDMA packet data services as they are made available to the industry.
