Before the introduction of Qualcomm’s 2net™ Platform, medical devices were siloed and biometric data was locked within proprietary systems and uniquely configured devices. The launch of Qualcomm Life’s cloud-based service liberated this data, creating new possibilities for end-to-end device connectivity.

Over the past few years, Microsoft has used Snapdragon processors in all of their Windows Phones. Inside every Window Phone 7 handset was either a Snapdragon S1 or S2 processor. The close collaboration between Microsoft and Qualcomm has resulted in a sea of fast and powerful smartphones with great battery life. This is one reason why Qualcomm, through its Wireless Reach initiative, has collaborated with China Children and Teenagers’ Fund (CCTF) and Xi’an Kingtone Information Technology Co., Ltd., (Xi’an Kingtone) to implement the Mobile Vision Project – a mobile health project that utilizes a customized 3G-enabled mobile application to assist doctors in the screening and treatment of children with amblyopia in underserved communities in China.

What if I told you that in the not so distant future we could be living in a world where emerging nations are the central hub of innovation, introducing new technologies to the developed world? Indeed, the notion of who is and who is not an international power player is beginning to turn on its head. And nowhere was this sense of expanding business models and worldviews more palpable than at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, which I recently had the pleasure of attending along with several member of the executive team.

One of the themes that resonated throughout Mobile World Congress 2012 (MWC) was the power of mobile in creating new opportunities and overcoming barriers in an array of vertical markets, from health care to women and entrepreneurship. Our Wireless Reach initiative supports pilot projects with this in mind and we continue to believe that wireless technology can improve people’s lives.
