Unlike the chocolate and peanut butter in Reese’s chocolate peanut butter cups, it was no accident that Snapdragon and the Xperia PLAY found themselves together. This week Sony Ericsson launched the Xperia PLAY at Verizon, with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon MSM8255 mobile processor with Adreno 205 Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) inside.
By now, most of us are used to the idea of an application store, providing applications that make our mobile devices more useful. Typically, entire ecosystems spring up around a platform, and there are multiple examples : Apple’s App Store, the Android Market, the Palm® App Catalog for webOS, RIM’s BlackBerry App World™, and Brew™ storefronts.
It is amazing how quickly one year ends and the next begins when you have a high profile worldwide consumer electronics show to kick off the New Year. This year’s CES show had more and more focus on mobility and smartphones and of course the hottest of all, in my opinion, were “Android tablets.”
