Qualcomm WiPower Technology Featured in New Qualcomm Toq Smartwatch; Qualcomm Named as Top Innovator in Wireless Power.

September has started as a great month for wireless power at Qualcomm. Not only did Qualcomm win a prestigious innovation award for its Qualcomm WiPower Technology (“WiPower”) from Frost & Sullivan, but this technology is featured in Qualcomm Toq, the world’s first smartwatch to incorporate WiPower.

Frost & Sullivan investigates various industries and acknowledges the companies that have pushed the boundaries of excellence. It evaluates industry players and their technologies against a set of criterion including uniqueness, functionality and relevance. Following its thorough analysis of the wireless power transmission industry, Frost & Sullivan named Qualcomm as a recipient of its Wireless Power Transmission Technology Innovation Award for its Qualcomm WiPower Technology.

In choosing Qualcomm for this award, Frost & Sullivan cited many features that set WiPower apart from other technology such as being able to provide flexibility in device positioning, being able to charge through a variety of materials, and providing ease of use. Jacek Debowski, Research Analyst at Frost & Sullivan, summarized it best when presenting Qualcomm with the award by stating that “WiPower is a breakthrough wireless charging technology, and is expected to be a game changer in the consumer electronics industry. WiPower enables flexible and seamless charging of smartphones, tablets, and other mobile electronics, without any cords or wires, and with minimal user intervention. The uniqueness of this technology lies in its flexibility, which nicely opens up brand new opportunities for seamless blending of wireless charging into a customer’s lifestyle.”

How better to celebrate such industry recognition than to announce a breakthrough consumer electronic device with WiPower built into it, i.e., Qualcomm Toq, which is an always on, color touch screen smartwatch. Armed with the Qualcomm Mirasol display technology, Qualcomm Toq provides users with an always on, color touch screen that is optimized for readability in bright sunlight. Under normal usage, Qualcomm Toq can go multiple days between charges. When needing that charge, Qualcomm Toq is topped off wirelessly by simply placing it on the included flip up charger.

Qualcomm Toq represents the first application of WiPower in a smartwatch. Qualcomm has also been delivering its next generation wireless power evaluation kit. More recently, Qualcomm inked licensing agreements for the use of WiPower with several companies across industries.

The future of wireless power is coming. WiPower is a “game changing” technology that will help enable consumers to charge wirelessly their electronic devices.
