Leading Minds in the Industry to Help Qualcomm Life Accelerate Wireless Health Adoption

Today, health care apps and medical devices are coming to the market and big players are jumping into the field faster than our professions’ and industries’ DNA can adapt. I observe this in action every day in my role as a physician, employee health advocate, and technology proponent.

As the Director of Qualcomm’s recently launched Global Employee Health Services my charge is to help employees to stay well, and to take advantage of the potential of wireless technology to blaze relevant, transformational new pathways in healthcare. I can see the future, and it looks promising.

I can’t help but wonder whether there has been any other time in medical history where so many physicians have decided to jump outside the norm and start adopting technology because of the potential to streamline work and personalize medicine.

However, what seems to be easy, isn’t always so. Healthcare as an industry can be slow to adopt certain technologies or do things differently. Regulations that ensure reliability and safety, key features that we would all agree are important, can stifle or slow useful tools. This is why Qualcomm Life is so well positioned to not only be a catalyst, an accelerator of technology adoption and creation, but it is going to put the tools of health care technology in the hands of billions of people by virtue of wireless connectivity and know how.

To further help us accelerate the wireless health field and navigate tricky healthcare labyrinths, Qualcomm Life created an Advisory Council (QLAC) with many of the best minds in the profession and industry. QLAC members will play a critical role in helping us produce viable solutions for some of healthcare’s tougher challenges. I’m pleased to be serving as the Council’s chair and could not have been more impressed by the bold ideas and insights that were shared at our inaugural meeting last week. As we delve into our work, I’ll continue to provide updates on our progress, as well as, my team’s work in harnessing Qualcomm enabled technologies to create employee centered health initiatives (including future Qualcomm Wireless Fitness Challenges) on this blog.
