Dual-Core Snapdragon MDP Now Available

In mobile communication, 2011 ushered in the buzz word “dual-core” with the introduction of the first tablets and smartphones. At Qualcomm, we began showcasing our MSM8660 dual-core CPU processors at CES, leveraging the Snapdragon Mobile Development Platform or MDP for short. If you aren’t familiar with the Snapdragon MDP, it is an important development tool available from BSQUARE to leverage the powerful capabilities of the Snapdragon processors.

The next generation Snapdragon MDP, based on the MSM8660 processor, is a smartphone form-factor featuring:

• 3.61" WVGA responsive, multi-touch touch screen display;
• Asynchronous dual-core CPUs running independently at up to 1.5 GHz;
• Adreno 220 GPU;
• 13-megapixel rear camera and 1MP front camera;
• 16mm stereo loudspeakers;
• 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage memory.

With availability of the Snapdragon MDP, based on the MSM8660 processor, announced last week by BSQUARE, the development community has immediate access to the latest features in the Snapdragon MSM8660 chipsets for use in development, optimization and testing. With commercial dual-core smartphones and tablets based on the dual-core MSM8660 not yet available, now is the time to get early access and initiate development for the MSM8660 with the new Adreno 220 GPU and asynchronous dual-core CPUs.
