CES 2010 Is Finally Here!

Over the last couple of weeks, I have been caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holidays and getting together with family while trying to finalize the last minute details that loom with any trade show. I guess for some folks they are used to this and plan accordingly. However, Qualcomm – being primarily focused on the wireless sector – has only recently become more active at CES.

By far, this year we’ve got the most going on yet at CES. Of course this is not surprising given the proliferation of cell phones, smartphones and 3G connectivity in more and more consumer electronics devices. And combine that with Qualcomm’s efforts with its snapdragon chipset to increase the performance and capabilities of smartphones and transform the mobile computing and Internet experience.

As Qualcomm along with other industry leaders rolled out the smartbook device category last year, I am excited that the first official product introductions happened here earlier this week. Lenovo Skylight is already getting positive reviews.

I look forward to getting my first smartbook device with 3G connectivity so that I can have mobile Internet access when and where I want it. All day battery life so I don’t need to find an outlet and a personalized user interface that allows me to use what I want and when. And I can stay entertained with rich multimedia and an easy way to keep up with my social media. Although much of this I can do on my smartphone, I really look forward to the larger, richer HD displays and easier to use keyboard and way to input/type information. Smartbooks – a new way to access the mobile Internet.

I personally wouldn't go ahead and buy the new generation netbooks like the lenovo Skylight just yet. The snapdragon processor hasn't yet been tested thoroughly on devices like a netbook that need much more complex operations than just a web browser and a media player. I saw on an Online Bingo site Lenovo's ad, and it really got me thinking of buying one. But I can wait patiently until spring and see what the user reviews sound like.
