Business Development
On The Job
“The business development group is the tip of the sword when it comes to new products that Qualcomm is trying to sell to wireless network operators and other customers. I’m focused on fostering relationships and building relationships with key decision-makers at these companies. Every morning I gather information and research data that Qualcomm’s leaders use to make millions of dollars worth of strategic decisions. They set the strategy but I’m close enough to the fire to influence strategy, and that’s very empowering.”
A Unique Company
“Despite the incredible wealth that’s been accumulated at Qualcomm, the atmosphere here is still very much one of an ambitious start-up. There’s still the hunger and pride that our engineers are going to out-do your engineers.”
Corporate Values: Innovate, Execute, Partner
“Partner is the Qualcomm value I identify with most. The business development folks spend an inordinate amount of time listening to what our partners need and what they would like us to do. We then bring that back to Qualcomm to put into our technologies and products.”
Wireless Technologies Make a Difference
“Qualcomm revolutionized the world with CDMA , and we’ve never stopped innovating and improving. Cell phones have gone from a device that just makes voice calls to a device that allows you to download emails and games, watch TV and enables position location services. All these advanced features and functions continue to be layered on top of this fantastic cake which is Qualcomm’s technology.”
Learning and Development
“We are spoiled at Qualcomm to have access to the world-renowned speakers and professors that come and visit with us regularly. I have actively and consistently taken advantage of these opportunities throughout my Qualcomm career. These resources have allowed me to get a deeper and wider understanding of our different divisional expertise, as well as a macro view of issues that influence our wireless marketplace. I have ascended in my career (in part) by applying the lessons learned through the Learning and Development process. The sparks that are triggered through our Learning and Development process are what lead us to well-thought ideas that eventually become revenue generating products and services.”
A Natural Fit for My School's Alumni
“I loved that at Stanford University we were challenged every day by each other and our professors. The kids at Stanford were very ambitious. We had some very staunch, opinionated, driven people that would come together in rooms and debate vehemently about their point of view. I see a similar environment here. At Qualcomm we have the best of the best trying to outdo each other with their technologies. The competitive juices are absolutely flowing.”
