Dave
QLife Health and Wellness Manager
On The Job
I have the privilege of helping to define in large measure, the culture of Qualcomm. My customers are the employees and their families. Our mission is to touch every single QC employee at least one time in their career with a service or program offering. Those programs are designed to assist our employees manage the various responsibilities we all share at home, at work and in the community. I really do have one of the coolest jobs in the world!
Military Groundwork for Qualcomm Culture
More than anything, the military exposed me to a fast paced environment where you needed to be flexible (and creative) to complete your mission and constantly adjust to changing priorities. It also instilled in me a strong work ethic and respect for my superiors that was sorely lacking as a kid coming out of high school.
Corporate Values: Innovate, Execute, Partner
My role is very unique within the company and probably ranks as one of the top positions of its kind anywhere in my field. I have the opportunity to do amazing things in my role that really make a difference in the lives of my fellow employees and their families. I am allowed tremendous freedom to experiment and try new approaches. Every day, I practice the QC core values of partner, innovate and execute and have a great time doing it!
Tips on transitioning from the Military to Qualcomm
Be ready for a culture shock. It is hard enough to transition out of the structure of the military to the more loosely defined civilian world in general, but Qualcomm has a very unique culture that is quite far removed from military culture. Take advantage of opportunities to mentor with others, get involved in activities outside of normal work and give yourself time to adjust.
