Bay Area Global Industry Analyst Summit 2013

In the last week of April 2013, Qualcomm Industry Analyst Relations welcomed more than eighty technology and industry analysts to a global summit in Santa Clara, California, as a part of Qualcomm’s larger Next in Mobile event. How Mobile is Redefining Computing

Day one of the summit began with an informative overview of some of our highlights over the last six months, and analysts heard from Anand Chandrasekher, Chief Marketing Officer, Qualcomm Incorporated, who spoke about how mobile is redefining computing and shared the latest Snapdragon demos and Snapdragon branded commercials.

Thereafter, Matt Grob, Executive Vice President & Chief Technology Officer, Qualcomm Incorporated, delivered a presentation on the challenge of data demand and the need for a 1000x increase in capacity. A large focus of Grob’s presentation surrounded the development of small cells, thinking network outside-in and inside-out. Curious about our work in this area? Next, Rob Chandhok, President, Qualcomm Internet Services, took the stage along with Martin Garner of CCS Insight for a fireside chat about the Internet of Everything, and Qualcomm’s AllJoyn solution. Throughout this candid discussion, Chandhok explained how AllJoyn allows proximal devices to communicate with one another, regardless of brand, operating system, or device type.

Qualcomm Labs: Fostering Mobile Innovation

In the final keynote before breaking for lunch, analysts heard from Peggy Johnson, Executive Vice President of Global Market Development, Qualcomm, who spoke about the various activities currently happening within Qualcomm Labs, as well as an update on Qualcomm Life, Skifta, Gimbal, and Wireless Reach.

In the afternoon, Alex Katouzian, Senior Vice President, Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. delivered an analyst-focused presentation entitled The Qualcomm Difference, explaining Qualcomm’s Strategy for sustainable mobile technology leadership. Much of this presentation focused on how Qualcomm’s system approach further differentiates our mobile solutions.

Thereafter, Francis Sideco of IHS took the stage, moderating an RF, modems, & connectivity panel that featured Serge Willenegger, Vice President of Product Management, Qualcomm Wireless GmbH, Jim Tran, Vice President of Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., and William McFarland, Vice President of Technology, Qualcomm Atheros. The panel spoke at length about both the Qualcomm RF360 Front End Solution, as well as our comprehensive connectivity suite and product roadmap.

In the final panel of the day, about the new era of computing, enabled by mobile architectures, Tim Bajarin of Creative Strategies, Inc. was joined on stage by Alex Katouzian, Senior Vice President of Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., Raj Talluri, Senior Vice President of Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., David Tokunaga, Senior Director of Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., and Joseph Tate, Vice President of Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. This discussion largely covered Qualcomm’s perspective on mobile computing, ranging from questions about architecture and technology to those about user experience in terms of graphics and multimedia.

Finally, analysts concluded the day with an open question and answer session with Paul Jacobs, Chairman & CEO, Qualcomm Incorporated. Dr. Jacobs spoke with analysts for over an hour, answering questions about Qualcomm products and technologies, as well as our heritage of mobile leadership and key advantages as the industry moves forward.
