Mazen received BS and Masters of Electrical Engineering at UCLA . He recalls, "I was at a trade show in New Orleans in 1998", recalls Mazen , who has worked with Qualcomm for over 10 years, "and I lost my phone in a cab. Unfortunately, I had a lot more than just my best friends phone numbers in the phone. I had my life on there, and I was pretty upset". Mazen went through the process of replacing his phone and changing the phone number, but his ordeal led to a possible solution. "I was thinking that maybe there was something we could do in terms of minimizing the fraudulent use of a phone. It wasn’t good enough for me to just cancel the phone number. I wanted to get my data out of that phone and do it as quickly as possible." A few years later, Mazen received a patent for the Method for Minimizing Fraudulent Users of a Mobile Telephone.
The relationships Mazen has formed over his career at Qualcomm extend beyond the regular workday. It’s a very friendly, family atmosphere. Everyone gives you ideas on where to go out, what to do, how to enjoy the beach. Mazen’s work at Qualcomm has developed these relationships further, creating enduring friendships.
