Brian
Engineer
“Qualcomm is focused on progressing wireless technologies as opposed to waiting for technology to happen. Our company has plenty of patents and we can make all kinds of money on those patents without having to do anything else. Instead, we sink a lot of money into R&D to develop technologies that will make the world a better place.”
Charlie
Marketing
“Qualcomm is known as a strong market leader in the wireless industry based on our company’s advanced CDMA technologies. We are pioneers in this industry, and we are continually exploring new areas such as UMTS and advanced multimedia solutions.”
Chris
Program Management
“I moved into program management after 10 years in engineering. Now I’m responsible for the day-to-day execution of a program. Later in the life of that program I become its business development manager. The part of my job that I like best is working with customers to develop new ideas and new opportunities for business.”
David
Engineer
“I do ASIC design and I’m responsible for taking a family of UMTS chips from start through finish. What I like best about my job is the variety of projects I work on and the variety of tasks that I do. A hardware designer can do design work, verification work, you see the silicon come back and can do testing on it and you can see it in action — in real products.”
Derek
Engineer
“I am a software engineer. I work on the BREW distribution system which allows customers to provide games, ringtones and other BREW-based applications to cell phone users. The best part of my job is when we have our big BREW conferences. That’s when I get to hear Disney, Verizon and some of our other worldwide customers talk about how they use our products and how our products benefit them. I love knowing that the things I work on are widely used.”
Eric
Engineer
“I’m technical lead on a team that’s developing a system which will enable operators to see how cell phones are performing throughout their networks. I lead the web server section of this project, and I’m responsible for the overall architecture of the software. What I like best about my job is the variety of work that I get. I’ve been able to work with a lot of different systems and architectures, I’ve had several exciting opportunities to work on patents and I keep learning new things about wireless technology. I love this field. It’s very cutting edge.”
Hakan
Engineer
“Innovate and Execute are the Qualcomm values that mean the most to me. Exploring new areas and coming up with new ideas is what I like doing most, but I also like working on turning those ideas into real applications.”
Howard
Business Development
“Qualcomm revolutionized the world with CDMA, and we’ve never stopped innovating and improving. Cell phones have gone from a device that just makes voice calls to a device that allows you to download emails and games, watch TV and enables position location services. All these advanced features and functions continue to be layered on top of this fantastic cake which is Qualcomm’s technology.”
Jesse
Hardware Applications Engineer
“I’m a hardware applications engineer. Right now, I support the newest power management ICs. I answer technical questions from Qualcomm’s handset design customers around the world and de-bug customer issues. I feed back what I learn about customer wants and needs to our marketing folks and in that way I help define our company’s next generation of products. That’s really cool.”
Joe
Operations
“Execute is the Qualcomm value I identify with the most. Many groups depend on the Operations team’s services, and so we are in a constant state of execution. This is particularly true with our design teams. These are huge teams of people who crank out new designs and need immediate feedback. We do whatever it takes to get the boards built and back into their hands so that they can evaluate their designs, move forward and stay on the cutting edge.”
Katie
Staffing Coordinator
“I moved to California a few years ago, and all of my communications with friends and family back home in Indiana has been through wireless technology — either through my mobile phone or my wireless internet EV-DO card. Being able to contact those people from wherever I am has been huge for me.”
Mazen
Product Management
“The relationships Mazen has formed over his career at Qualcomm extend beyond the regular workday. It’s a very friendly, family atmosphere. Everyone gives you ideas on where to go out, what to do, how to enjoy the beach.”
Oscar
Engineer
“I’m chip lead on two new products, including Qualcomm’s first single-chip MSM to address the low-cost market. I make sure the MSM gets designed and meets the schedules. I love that my job is very challenging. The technologies we work on and the way we do things are always changing. We’re always trying to do things better. There’s always something new to learn.”
Samir
Engineer
“I’m a systems engineer, and I’m part of a team that designs and develops multimedia applications based on IP technologies. We solve some pretty challenging problems which haven’t been done before, and we have a lot of opportunities to be creative. This is a very exciting group. Everyone is very knowledgeable in this field, and we all bounce off each other for ideas and support. We are excited about what we do. Everyone is motivated to develop products which consumers will use.”
Serena
Engineer
“The work environment at Qualcomm is open and flexible. Employees are encouraged and challenged, and the tools we need are always at our disposal. Qualcomm provides opportunities for teambuilding activities and makes sure that employees strike a balance between work and getting involved in community events.”
